I was doing some work on story three when all of a sudden, over the laptop's speakers, I heard a strange voice reading the story out loud. Thought I was hearing things...or I was finally going insane with all this story stuff.
After doing some experimentation, I realized that I had somehow accidentally activated the TTS (Text to Speech) ability of Windows. I still have no idea how I did it, and of course I couldn't figure out how to do it again (must be one of Murphy's Laws).
After some research, I found out I could activate TTS by setting up the speech recognition facilities on Windows. Now how I could accidently get it to work in the first place, without doing the setup, only the Windows-gods know...or probably Avon...
The voice sounds strange at first, it is an artificial voice after all, and sometimes it puts stresses on odd words in a sentence. Also I had to do up a different version of the text and change some of the spelling of the words so it would sound right when the voice read it. i.e. changing the spelling of 'tech' to 'tek' because it tended to use the wrong 'ch' sound.
I've found it a good way to judge the flow of the story. Though i'm putting more commas into the text, which may not be a good idea.
