Surprisingly enough, I've just had a positive experience with tech support. It's so unusual that I had to write about it.

My Aspiron One, Acer netbook broke down several months ago. Dark screen of death. The fan made faint gurgling noises, like it was being strangled, but the darned thing wouldn't boot up. It's about a year old and still under warranty.
I was prepared to send it to the repair depot to have it fixed and went to their site to locate an address. I noticed they have live online help support. I was up for some humour so I decided to see how 'helpful' (I'm not cynical...really. Yeah, right.) they could be.

Well, to my amazement, online support was helpful, polite, knowledgeable and fixed my problem. It seems all I had to do was flash it with a new BIOS (get your minds out of the gutter...you know who you are). The instructions were listed online and were easy to follow. I followed the steps, downloaded the new BIOS version to a flash drive, and turned on the netbook.

Thirty seconds later, it booted up! Yay!

It now works perfectly fine and it accesses the new wireless router my brother gave me for my birthday.
