State of writing
2nd-Jun-2009 09:30 am
I'm currently in a state of depression in terms of writing. That's why I haven't posted much lately. It isn't from lack of ideas or inspiration. I already have the plot of my current story and I know the scenes that need to be written. My fingers are still busy typing out words but I'm not satisfied with anything that I've written. Everything seems flat.

How did I get to this point? I spent time researching the craft of writing, trying to get some pointers and ideas in order to grow and improve. But the only thing that seems to have done is cause me to see all the flaws in my writing and makes me wonder why anyone would read it =P

If I go back to writing the way I do normally, its fine and the words come easily again. But try to focus on different ideas, such as trying to 'show' more than 'tell' and everything grinds out to a boring halt. Grrr. I'm sure that this will eventually get sorted out but at the moment, I'm in a funk.

As I am of a generation that finds computers are not a natural way of expressing thoughts openly - I am waiting for a young friend to show me how to use this medium to converse with you ! - but in the meantime forget the 'professional' way of writing and go from your heart as you have been doing - until I find a way of telling you of the untold hours of pleasure your stories have given me - I will be bereft if you don't start again.
(I am using the same method I used to suggest a change of tense - and that seemed to reach you-so here's hoping.

Hello Ann

Don't worry, I won't stop. I've just hit a bit of a snag at the moment because I'm trying to improve some areas that I know I'm weak at.

I'm glad that you've enjoyed these stories.

If you want to converse, feel free to email me.

If you have a gmail address, we can 'chat' as well.

Cheers,
