I logged on this morning to check my regular list of sites and found this message for Facebook when trying to access the Scrabble application:

"Scrabulous is disabled for US and Canadian users until further notice."

What??? There is no explanation as to why. Has anyone heard anything about this?

I put my email in to be informed of developments about this matter. No messages yet.

It's copyright issue. I heard months ago that the owners of the Scrabble™ copyright were NOT happy with Scrabulous' unauthorized use of their rules, etc.

Here's a news story.

Scrabble waited to take action until they had an authorized version to put on Facebook- but it seems to be broken, so you can't even switch to that if you want to put up with it not being as good. It's a pity Scrabble didn't just buy the version that WORKS, and take it over.

(I've never played Scrabulous- didn't dare get myself another internet addiction.)

Thanks for the info.

Drat. That's not good news. I was in the middle of several games.

*sigh* Unfortunately, anything on the Internet can vanish without warning.

In this case, though, the warning signs had been there all along- it was a popular, highly visible, copyright violation of an active, money-making corporation. That's the most vulnerable sort of thing.

So that's why you haven't up dated, I thought you might have gone on vacation. Though to be honest my first thought when someone disappears from my network from the North American Continent is Witness protection, heavens know why.

That's my second default on the premis that the Beeb is not so parochial that it wouldn't tell us if Toronto was wiped off the map.

*Sighs* We need to find another game that is available on both sides of the Atlantic.

It's gone completely now. I can't get to it.

Buggers! So it's not just North America now.

But it looks like you can sign up to play at scrabulous itself. I can't imagine the copyright holder overlooking this for long, though.
